Oil-Free Calibration
Australian Pressure Laboratory can carry out testing using non-oil mediums such as dry air, dry nitrogen and distilled water.
The testing options depend on your requirements and the cleanliness of your instruments. These are explained below.
When sending in your instruments for oil-free testing, please ensure you complete our Oil-Free Calibration Instrument Declaration.


Non-oil Test Medium
APL can perform testing of standard pressure instruments (non-oxygen applications) using dry nitrogen or air up to 21,000 kPa (3,000 psi) and distilled water up to 100 MPa (15,000 psi). For specialist applications, we can offer an extended nitrogen test range up to 42,000 kPa (6,000 psi). This testing avoids bulk oil contamination in your instruments, so is well suited to applications where you want to avoid oil for functional or hygenic reasons. This service is NOT intended or suitable for oxygen or oxidising gas service. Instead refer to our “Use No Oil, Oil-Free and Oxygen Service” below.
Use No Oil, Oil-Free and Oxygen Service
Our strict oil-free testing procedure is available here and is designed to prevent oil-free gauges from being contaminated during their time in our laboratory. Our procedure does not include cleaning of gauges or checking their cleanliness, and is only designed to maintain cleanliness of already clean gauges.
Due to the potential explosion hazard with oil contamination in gauges, especially in oxygen service, we recommend that customers exercise caution when handling oil-free gauges to ensure they are not contaminated in use or transport. If unsure, gauges should be replaced or professionally cleaned. Australian Pressure Laboratory does not offer a cleaning service for oil-free instruments or oxygen service.
