Dead Weight Testers

Despite advances in digital sensor technology in recent years, these fundamental primary standards remain the lowest uncertainty pressure reference over the broad pressure range. When functioning correctly and treated with care, they are highly sensitive, repeatable and stable references for the most demanding accuracy requirements.

Calibration at APL is a full area and mass calibration for maximum flexibility and lowest uncertainties. It is performed by careful cross-comparison (cross-floating) against our own low uncertainty Piston Gauges to determine the effective area and distortion of your piston(s).

To ensure our testing is tailoured to your preferences and requirements for uncertainty and budget, we offer a range of testing options, from our Standard Calibration (typically yielding uncertainties down to 0.015%) down to our Metrology Pro Calibration, which supports uncertainties limited only by our accreditation or the performance of your instrument (uncertainties as low as 0.0015%).

Mass Calibration

APL’s accreditation includes calibration of the weights for your Dead Weight Tester, so please be sure to send them along with your pistons. Our uncertainty in mass, at 0.0006%, is welll suited to high accuracy pressure applications.

Our DWT calibrations include area and mass determination, providing maximum flexibility.
